The Home Builders Association of Berks County (HBA) has been recognized for an unprecedented three Best-in-Nation Awards of Excellence from the Executive Officers Council (EOC) of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The HBA was heralded for its outstanding accomplishments in the categories of: Best Comprehensive Social Media Effort Award with an active presence on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Pinterest; Best Publication Award for At Home in Berks magazine with a circulation of 3,000; and Best Community Service Project for Restoring Hope to the Van Sant Family (2012 Build).

As the organization’s 2012 President, Kevin Kozo, of Turnberry Custom Homes in West Reading, led a visionary Board of Directors driven to renew, reinvent, and reinvigorate the HBA despite five years of a crippling economy that devastated the residential construction industry.

“It is truly an honor.” Kozo pronounced,  “As the go-to source for the home building and remodeling industries, the HBA of Berks County is very proud of all of our members’ efforts and diligent work in all three of these areas. We are especially proud of our community out-reach efforts, through our HBA Restoring Hope Foundation, which each year gives fellow Berks County residents a hand up, not just a hand out.”

“This is not your daddy’s HBA,” boasted Christian D. Malesic, MBA, IOM who is the Executive Officer for the association. “Our association, our leaders, our members are, literally, the Best-in-Nation.  HBA of Berks County is on the cutting-edge.  We lead the pack. We are teaching other HBAs how we bring exceptional value to our members so they can emulate the process.”

The Association Excellence Awards is an annual program designed to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of state and local Home Builders Associations and Executive Officers in the field of association management.  EOC membership is comprised of the staff executives who direct 738 NAHB-affiliated state and local Home Builders Associations representing more than 140,000 residential construction contractors in communities across the United States.

"The Association Excellence Awards recognize the outstanding effort, commitment, and achievement an Executive Officer and an association’s membership have made,” said Tim Minton, 2013 National President of the EOC and Executive Vice President of the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County, NC. "These awards are well deserved and represent a true showcase of the outstanding work of the HBA of Berks County.”

The winning entries will become part of the online EOC Idea Loan File so that other executives and associations across the country can access and learn from them in order to provide better service to their own members and community. Additionally, Malesic will present these ideas in a how-to format as featured speaker at the Association Leadership Institute, a national convention of Executive Officers and volunteer leaders, to be held in Portland, OR in August.
